A person loses part of themselves when they refuse to seek higher understandings. We are taught to discern morality, and that the gentiles (unlearned) choose to be ignorant to seeking wisdom. When someone becomes detached to fathoming, that is where the dullness comes from; as it is like a sword that isn't sharpened, because there is no depth in the sharpening to create an edge.
