The "fight" is not against other humans, but against the spiritual forces of evil. (Ephesians 6:12) They are what keep us from loving as Christ commanded.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs (9:10)
Love and peace come from living by the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25)
